About

Our history

Livingmaps Network was established in 2013 with the support of Mapping for Change, the Young Foundation and the Centre for East London Studies to develop a network of researchers, community activists and others with a common interest in the use of mapping for social change, public engagement and community campaigning.

During 2014/15, Livingmaps planned, raised funds for and delivered development projects in the Stratford/Olympic Park area in east London under the title Speaking out of place: voices and visons from East 20, produced the youth video Living the Dream and the publication A Young Person’s Guide to the Olympic Park. We started the programme of monthly seminars, which continues, augmented by guided walks, workshops and pubic screenings. In October 2015, we staged a symposium ‘London’s Turning’ at UEL, Stratford, raising issues about regeneration and the changing social landscape of east London.

In February 2016, we launched the first issue of the online journal Livingmaps Review.

Working with Livingmaps Network

We are keen to work jointly with organisations who share our interests in social change, engagement and campaigning, through joint bids or by identifying Livingmaps associates who have required skills and experience. Contact us at info@livingmaps.org.uk if you would like to discuss potential projects, or if you are interested in becoming an associate.
